Description

FloorPro Smooth is a grey powder consisting of special cements with fast setting and hydrating properties, with selected graded silica sand, resins and special additives.

FloorPro Smooth is a self-smoothing, cementitious, non-structural, fast- drying yet fluid and easily workable compound, perfectly suitable for self-levelling floor underlayment with a high bond strength to the substrate for use over poured in-situ and precast concrete floors which will be covered by resin overlays, carpet, vinyl, ceramic tiles or natural stone. Only water needs to be added on site to obtain the desired consistency for pumping or manual installation. It is used in interiors for levelling and smoothing differences in thicknesses from 1 to 20 mm on new or existing substrates, preparing them to receive flooring where a high resistance to loads and traffic is required. The product can be applied with an automatic pressure pump for distances over 100 m

It does not shrink or crack and reaches a high level of compressive and flexural strength and resistance to indentation and abrasion. Due to its rapid hydration formulation, subsequent installation of most types of flooring can begin approx. 12 hours after the application

Substrate Preparation

Concrete substrate must be sound, rough and of sufficient compressive strength (minimum 25 N/mm²) with a minimum pull off strength of 1.5 N/mm2. Concrete substrates must be prepared mechanically using abrasive blast cleaning or scarifying equipment, grinding to remove cement laitance and achieve an open textured surface.  Weak concrete must be removed and surface defects such as blow holes and voids must be fully exposed. The substrate must be sound, rough, clean, dry and   free of all contaminants such as dirt, oil, grease, coatings, cement laitance, sinter layers and surface treatments, etc. The substrate must have adequate strength, load bearing capacity and dimensional stability. Repairs to the substrate, filling of blowholes / voids and surface levelling must be carried out using appropriate products from the RepairPro range of materials. All dust, loose and friable material must be completely removed from all surfaces before application of the product, preferably by brush or vacuum. Cracks must be first repaired with RepairPro Inject EPLV.

Priming/ Sealing:

Dusty or very porous concrete surfaces must be cleaned then treated with a coat of BondPro Penetrating Primer (1-part BondPro Penetrating Primer with 3 parts of water depending on the type of substrate). Use at least 100ml to 200ml/ m² (ratio 1:1 with water) of the primer for the initial priming. Allow to dry until a transparent film has been formed. Absorbent / porous substrates should be primed twice. The second coat shall be approx. 50ml to 70ml / m² (ratio 1:1 with water).

If applying onto ceramic or natural stones, apply a coat of BondrPro Grip Primer (after the surface has been thoroughly cleaned and/or mechanically abraded.

 

The same substrates, if external must be treated with a suitable epoxy-based primer such as FloorPro Primer MT, FloorPro Primer SF. Immediately after the application of primer, the surface must be broad- casted with FloorPro Anti-Slip Aggregates. The remains of sand which are not well bonded must be removed before applying FloorPro Smooth

Product Preparation

Slowly pour full bag of FloorPro Smooth powder into a rust-free mixing bucket containing 5.5 to 5.75 litres of clean water and mix with a low-speed electric mixer fitted with a suitable mixing paddle to obtain an homogeneous, self-levelling lump free mix. After allowing to settle for 2-3 minutes, the mix should be re-stirred and is then ready for use.

The quantity of FloorPro Smooth 30 mixed must be used within 20-30 minutes (at a temperature of +23°C).

Mixing by hand is not recommended. For improved efficiency and continuous production of FloorPro Smooth, it is recommended to use at least two mixing buckets. For larger jobs, the use of a mechanical mixer/pump unit is recommended

Product Application

Pour mixture over substrate or pump through a suitable pump to desired thickness. Apply FloorPro Smooth in a single layer of 1 to 20 mm thick with a large metal spread- er or rake, trowel, keeping the trowel slightly inclined to obtain the desired thickness.

 

FloorPro Smooth can also be applied with an automatic pressure pump. Larger quantities can be prepared in mortar mixers. Damp down the inside of the mixer with water prior to mixing the initial batch. Ensure the mixer is damp but free of standing water.

Whether pouring from a mixing vessel or using a mechanical mixer with an application hose, the discharge point should be approximately 200 mm from the floor to prevent splashing and air entrapment.

 

Progress should be steady and even. Application should take place continuously into the preceding wet material to ensure even thickness and flow. Do not make new edges and ‘fill in’ the middle. The fresh wet topping can be rolled immediately with a suitable long spiked roller to release all air retained within the underlayment. Do not roll mate- rial that has been applied for more than 2-3 minutes.

Expansion Joint:

Expansion joints in the existing substrate floor must be retained and continued through the FloorPro Smooth cementitious self -levelling screed. North Construction Chemicals have a range of joint sealants specifically designed for flooring, consult technical department for advice.

Curing:

FloorPro Smooth is self-curing but as with all cementitious products in hot weather, take adequate measures to protect it from exposure to direct sunlight and hot winds. Due to its rapid hydration formulation, subsequent installation of most types of flooring can begin approx. 12 hours after the application, regardless of thick- ness. For resilient allow a minimum 24 hours of prior to application.

Cleaning:

Tools, equipment and mixers with clean water immediately after use (before hardening). Cured material can only be removed by mechanical means.

Others
  • Try to avoid application during the hottest times of the day, and in direct sunlight.
  • The product can be used when the ambient temperature is between +10 °C min. and +35 °C max. In hot weather use cool water to bring the mixed grout temperature to <30°C.
  • Do not add cement sand, or any other additives which may affect its properties.
  • Do not add water or fresh mortar to material which has begun to set.
  • Do not proceed with the application when rainfall is imminent unless in a sheltered or protected situation.
  • Only full bags of the product shall be mixed by mechanical means with a slow speed drill and spiral paddle.
  • The product should not be exposed to moving water during application or prior to initial set.
  • Mix only sufficient material that can be applied using available labour and equipment to ensure a continuous and uninterrupted application.
  • Do not add lime, cement or gypsum to the mix.
  • Do not use FloorPro Smooth on substrates subject to continuous rising damp.
  • Do not apply an additional coat of FloorPro Smooth when the previous one is completely dry; in this case first prime with BondPro Penetrating Primer diluted with 1:3 of water by volume
