Description

BondPro EP is a permanent epoxy adhesive consisting of two pre-measured components (A= resin + B= hardener) for internal and external bonding of renderings, granolithic toppings, and concrete to concrete. It tolerates a degree of moisture before and during curing and is insoluble when cured. The ultimate bond strength is greater than the tensile strength of concrete.

BondPro EP does not shrink and provides an even and stress-free bond

Additional Information

Applicable Standards/ Compliance: Packaging: Coverage/ Yield:
ASTM C881 Type II Grade 2, Class B,C, E & F Meet the requirements of EN- 1504-9 and min.  requirements claimed by EN-1504 4 litre & 10 litre packs. 2-2.7 m²/kg or 3.5 - 4.0 m²/litre
* This coverage is theoretical & depends upon the surface profile of the substrate & the wastage.

Typical Applications

Typical applications (Uses):

  • For bonding steel to concrete
  • For monolithic construction joints between fresh and hardened concrete (bonding fresh wet cementitious materials to existing cementitious surfaces)
  • For internal and external applications.
  • For filling cracks in concrete
  • For use on horizontal surfaces or on vertical surfaces where mortar or concrete can be supported by formwork.
  • The long ‘open’ life makes it suitable for use with formwork or where additional steel reinforcement has to be fitted. The product is ideal for roads, bridges, pavements, loading bays and factories, and for bonded or granolithic floor toppings.

Recommendations:

  • Since low temperatures retard the setting and curing of BondPro EP, avoid working in cold weather if possible. Although the product will cure slowly at low temperatures, a temperature of 7°C to 10°C can be considered to be the lowest at which work on vertical rendering may proceed satisfactorily without shuttering.
  • Do not cast fresh concrete onto hardened BondPro EP.
  • Do not use BondPro EP on wet substrates (can be used on slightly damp substrates).
  • Keep mixing and placing equipment cool which will come into direct contact with the material itself.

Have a ready supply of Solvent available for immediate cleaning. of tools after use

Benefits

  • High strength.
  • Non shrink.
  • Waterproof, Moisture tolerant.
  • Durable, high mechanical characteristics.
  • Resistant to chemical attack.
  • Supplied in pre-weighed units, easy for on-site mixing & use.
  • Can be applied on to dry or damp substrates
  • Exhibits high mechanical strength.
  • Solvent-free - can be used in enclosed locations.
  • Slow cure allows time to erect steel reinforcement and formwork.

Substrate Preparation

The background must be perfectly sound, clean and strong. Clean the surface & remove any dust, all loose crumbling parts, flaking and cracking paint, plaster, cement laitance, unsound or contaminated material, plaster, corrosion deposits or algae. Oil and grease deposits should be removed by steam cleaning, detergent scrubbing or the use of a proprietary degreaser. When applying the product to metal, remove any rust and grease residues beforehand, preferably by means of sandblasting. Where breaking out is not required, roughen the surface and remove any laitance by light scabbling or grit-blasting.

Product Preparation
  • Carefully transfer the entire contents of the smaller container of BondPro EP (component B=hardener) into the larger BondPro EP (component A=resin) and thoroughly mix, using a stout palette knife or a slow speed drill with a paint mixing paddle until the mix is perfectly smooth and even. This normally takes about three minutes. Do not use partial amounts to avoid the risk of accidental ratio errors that could prevent the product from curing. Do not attempt to thin.
  • Once mixed, the material must be used within the specified usable life. After this time, unused material will have stiffened and should be discarded
Product Application
  • BondPro EP should be applied evenly across the whole surface with a clean, short haired paint brush or a laying on flat trowel on dry or slightly damp concrete
  • The product should be protected during this time to prevent contamination. This is particularly necessary on horizontal surfaces.
  • After application, the product must be left to stand before overcoating. The time delay will depend on surface and prevailing conditions but will typically be 60 minutes at 25°C/45 minutes at 40°C

Cleaning:

Use a suitable thinner (Xylene / MEK / Acetone) to clean tools when the product is still wet or tacky. Once the product has set hard, it can only be removed mechanically.

Health and Safety:

As with all construction chemicals products, caution should always be exercised. Some people are sensitive to resins, hardeners and solvents. Wear suitable protective clothing, gloves & eye protection. If working in confined areas, suitable respiratory protective equipment must be used. The use of barrier creams provides additional skin protection. In case of contact with skin, remove immediately with resin removing cream followed by washing with soap and water. The product should not come in contact with skin or eyes or be swallowed. Ensure adequate ventilation & avoid inhalation of vapours. Do not use solvent. In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of clean water & seek medical advice. If swallowed, seek medical attention immediately - do not induce vomiting.
