Description

BondPro Cure WB is a ready to use, solvent free membrane forming low viscous wax emulsion, suitable for spray application to freshly poured concrete for preventing the evaporation of mixed water in concrete. It has been specifically developed for use as a high-quality curing and sealing compound for interior and exterior applications

It is supplied as a white emulsion which forms a clear film for drying. Also available in white pigmented grade based on titanium dioxide to meet specifications required for reduction of solar temperature gain

The resultant film retains sufficient moisture in the concrete for effective curing to ensure full hydration of the cement, essential for optimum strength development. Membrane cured concrete is typically harder and exhibits a dust free surface with a reduced incidence of drying shrinkage cracks

Additional Information

Applicable Standards/ Compliance: Colors: Packaging: Coverage/ Yield:
BondPro Cure WB gives 75% or greater curing efficiency when tested to BS 7542 and complies with BS 8110 Part 1, clause 6.6.3(c) ASTM C309 Type 1 Class A AASHTO M-148 Type 1 Class A Clear opaque & White 20L pail & 200L drum 3.5 to 6 m²/litre

* In favorable conditions such as shaded interior surfaces, adequate curing can be achieved with extended coverage rates.

Typical Applications

  • As a more effective and economical alternative to hessian and water and polythene curing regimes.
  • Suitable for all kinds of concrete, horizontal/ vertical applications and large areas of exposed concrete such as highways, runways, taxiways, aprons, roof decks, pre-stressed beams & columns, slabs, etc.
  • The film can also act as a bond breaker between initial and subsequent concrete pours.

Recommendations:

It is recommended that where the concrete is to receive a coating or the application of tiles, the use of BondPro Cure RB is considered. BondPro Cure RB is a resin based non-degrading curing membrane meeting the requirements of ASTM C-309 Type 1 Class B. It is additionally formulated to act as a primer for many finishes or to seal concrete surfaces and provide a degree of abrasion to flatwork

Benefits

  • Control of moisture loss improves surface quality, reduces permeability, minimizes cracking and shrinkage improving the durability of concrete.
  • Reduces dusting. Seals, primes and hardens cement- based compositions.
  • Single application - Spray application reduces labour costs
  • Eliminates the need for water & alternative curing systems.
  • Cured film is clear and water repellent
  • Reduces drying shrinkage
  • High curing efficiency
  • Reduced labour costs
  • Water based – hence non-flammable

Substrate Preparation

The drum should be rolled on the ground back and forth before use to ensure even dispersal of the pigment. Stir the contents thoroughly prior to application to remove any sediment.

Equipment:

Spray equipment such as knapsack or motorised sprayers which produce a fine mist without damaging the emulsion may be used for BondPro Cure WB. The suitability of equipment should be assessed by an application trial

Product Preparation
Product Application

a)     As Curing compound

The compound should be spray applied as evenly as possible on to the freshly placed concrete. Application should begin as soon as the concrete is free from surface water. The spray nozzle should be held approximately 450 mm from the concrete surface and passed back and forth to ensure complete coverage. Pump pressure should be maintained to give an even, fine spray. After spraying, no further application of water or other material is necessary to ensure continued curing. The concrete surface should not be disturbed until it has sufficient strength to bear surface loads. The applied film should not be trafficked until it is fully dry, care should also be taken to ensure that the film is not subsequently broken. For horizontal surfaces, BondPro Cure WB should be applied as soon as the initial surface sheen has disappeared from the concrete surface. In the case of formed concrete, BondPro Cure WB should be applied immediately on removal of the formwork. To assist breakdown of the BondPro Cure WB film on vertical and formed surfaces, it is essential to dampen down the concrete with clean water prior to application as Dry surfaces may prevent correct film formation and cause absorption of the BondPro Cure WB which may lead to staining and difficulty in later removal.

b)    As Bond Breaker

The compound should be spray applied to form an even film covering the entire surface against which the subsequent segment will be cast.If necessary, more than one coat should be applied. The actual coverage and number of coats will be dependent on texture and porosity of the surface. The recommended application rate when used as a bond breaker is 4 square meters per litre.

Film Breakdown

The time for deterioration of the membrane is dependent on a number of variables, which include film thickness, degree of exposure to weathering, traffic, UV light, and the porosity of the substrate concrete

Subsequent Surface finishes

It is important that the complete removal of the BondPro Cure WB should be ensured, prior to the application of any surface finish or additional treatment. this is necessary to ensure adequate bond of the coating material to the concrete substrate. BondPro Cure WB will slowly be removed by physical abrasion in normal trafficking conditions or exposure to UV light. To ensure complete removal use high pressure steam, water jet or light sand blasting

Others

Cleaning:

Spray equipment should be cleaned immediately after use by flushing through with water. If spray nozzles become blocked with wax particles these may be easily cleared with white spirit.

Health and Safety:

As with all construction chemicals products, caution should always be exercised. Protective clothing such as gloves and goggles should be worn. Treat any splashes to the skin or eyes with fresh water immediately. Should any of the products be accidently swallowed, do not induce vomiting, but call for medical assistance immediately. For further information, refer to the appropriate Product Material Safety Data Sheet.
