Description

AquaShieldPro Pro B55 is a solvent based, high solids content, flexible, black bitumen paint (phenol free). It is manufactured to comply with the specification requirements of BS 3416 and is therefore suitable for the internal coating of drinking water tanks and pipes.

Additional Information

Applicable Standards/ Compliance: Packaging: Colours: Coverage/ Yield:
Complies with BS 3416:1991 Type 1A Appendix B General performance for bituminous coating ASTM C309 water retention requirements forcuring membranes. 20 litres pail &     200 litres drum Dark brown (liquid) Black (dry) 0.10 - 0.30 litres/ m²/ coat depending on density, surface porosity, surface profile, variations in level or wastage etc.
Apply by brush, roller or spray equipment to vertical and horizontal prepared surfaces for a variety of purposes.

Typical Applications

  • To provide a protection anti corrosion coating on steel tanks pipes, concrete and masonry.
  • Damp proofing of block work
  • Vapour barrier for concrete
  • Designed to provide a continuous barrier to the passage of water and water vapour and can be used to produce vapour barriers, damp proof courses, linings to potable water tanks and pipes, below ground concrete protection, concrete curing by water retention, and corrosion protection to metal surfaces

Benefits

  • Single component
  • Cold applied, no heating required
  • Quick drying
  • Ready to use by brush, roller or low-pressure spray
  • Can be applied to damp concrete substrates
  • Excellent water retention for use as curing compound
  • Excellent adhesion to most common building substrates
  • Tough and resistant to most naturally occurring chemicals

Substrate Preparation

The surface shall be cleaned thoroughly of all contaminants like dust, rust, traces of curing compound, oil and grease. These should be carefully removed by wire or stiff brushing and finally soft brushing or filtered compressed air to remove dust. Oil and grease should be removed by the use of a proprietary degreasing agent. Structurally unsound and friable concrete must be removed and repaired with a suitable concrete repair mortar. Old concrete and steel must be structurally sound prior to application.

For optimum adhesion to steel, grit blasting to SA21/2 is recommended.

AquaShieldPro Pro B55 can be applied to damp concrete, brick and plaster surfaces provided there is no free surface water or bleed. A test patch is recommended where there is doubt

Product Preparation

The drum should be rolled on the ground back and forth before decanting material. Stir the contents of the drum thoroughly prior to application

Product Application
  • Damp-proof membranes, vertical vapour barriers:

Apply a full coat of AquaShieldPro B55 and allow to dry. Coverage rate should be approximately 3 m²/ per litre. Apply a second coat at right angles to the first coat.

  • Water tank and pipeline protection

Two coats of AquaShieldPro B55 should be applied as detailed above. Where necessary the coating can be thickened at floor/wall corners by forming a 20x20mm fillet onto the first coat and liberally coating with a second coat.

  • Concrete screeds or render

Where it is necessary to cover the membrane with a screed or render, clean grit 2mm nominal size should be broadcast into the wet second coat to provide a mechanical key. All loose grit should be removed prior to placing the screed/ render. (Care should be taken to ensure that the membrane is not damaged during placing of the screed).

  • Curing compound

Apply two coats of AquaShieldPro Pro B55 as for damp proof membranes. This will give a curing efficiency in excess of 80% and comply with ASTM C309. It can be applied to damp concrete.

  • Repairs

Damaged areas of AquaShieldPro Pro B55 can be readily overcoated to restore the continuity of the     membrane

Others

Cleaning:

Tools, equipment and mixers with clean water immediately after use (before hardening) using soapy water. Cured material can be removed by scraping and with paraffin or white spirit.
