Description

AquaShieldPro B40 is a single pack, cold applied, stable water-borne bitumen emulsion coating of brushing consistency that dries to form a firm, flexible, black jointless vapor barrier coating. and tough protective coating for concrete

Additional Information

Applicable Standards/ Compliance: Packaging: Colours: Coverage/ Yield:
Contributes  toward  satisfying  LEED® v4 requirements of the EQ Credit- Low-emitting Materials (for the VOC content) 15 litres pail & 200 litres drum Dark brown (liquid) Black (dry) The average dry film thickness of 125 microns was achieved when applied @ 3-5 m²/litre/coat, at the required number of coats

Typical Applications

  • Water-based bitumen emulsion, is suitable for protection and damp-proofing of concrete, masonry, asbestos cement sheets, asphalt, roofing felt, metals, wood, and other similar surfaces whether flat, sloping, or vertical.
  • Generally used as an all-purpose bituminous primer on steel and concrete, prior to the application of torch-applied membranes and protective coatings, to increase adhesion and bond to the substrate
  • Seal newly cut timber surface to prevent loss of moisture.
  • Damp-proofing for below-ground concrete structures and foundations that are above the water table
  • Protective coating for built-up roofing systems and other exposed surfaces
  • The moisture vapor barrier on block works and waterproof concrete surfaces prior to cladding.
  • Waterproofing wet areas (horizontal concrete structures below screeds isolated with PE sheets)

Benefits

  • Single component, solvent-free
  • Cold applied, no heating required
  • Suitable for new and old concrete
  • Vapour permeable allows the substrate to breathe
  • Resists the attack of salts like chlorides and sulfates that are
  • present in soil
  • Simple and easy to apply.
  • Ready to use by brush or roller
  • Non-slumping
  • Excellent adhesion to concrete, metal, wood, cork, and most
  • common building substrates

Substrate Preparation

The surface to be treated should be clean, dry and free from dirt, oil and grease. All surfaces where bitumen coating is to be applied must be thoroughly cleaned. Remove all dust, dirt or contamination to get sound clean, dry surfaces. All major cracks to be opened in “V” shape & fill it up with RepairPro range of repair mortars. Honey combed or spalled concrete to be repaired with a suitable repair mortar. Nail heads and other protrusions that are likely to damage the coating must be removed or grounded. Old concrete and steel must be structurally sound prior to application.

Product Preparation

The drum should be rolled on the ground back and forth before decanting the material. Stir the contents of the drum thoroughly prior to application

Priming

Primer is always recommended prior to the coating as it not only penetrates into the concrete pores and seals the substrate. It also acts as an adhesion promoter for further coatings. The primer coat can be made on the site by diluting the same product with 20% water & applying this diluted coat as a primer. The primer may be applied by a brush, roller, or airless spray. Allow the primer to dry before any further coats are applied. However, if the primer after the application is left open for more than 24 hours after it becomes dry, clean the surface of any settled dust & apply a fresh coat of the primer.

Product Application

AquaShieldPro B40 should be applied by roller, brush, airless spray, or squeegee to prepared surfaces. Stir well before use, and replace the lid when not in use. For any spillage soak up with sand or sawdust and wash down immediately. As a damp-proof membrane and vapor barrier, two coats of AquaShieldPro B40 are recommended. Allow a minimum of 4 hours between the first coat and the second coat. Second and subsequent coats should be applied at right angles to each other once previous coats have fully dried. All applications should be continued up verticals to the existing damp proof course. Where the surface is to receive a plaster finish, render or screed, ‘grit’ the second coat with clean, dry sand to form a keyed surface. After drying the excess sand should be brushed off. Allow a minimum of 7 days drying period before applying plaster, render, or floor screed The coating shall be protected from ongoing site activities & during backfilling from getting damaged by polyethylene sheet.

Others
  • Try to avoid application during the hottest times of the day, and in direct sunlight.
  • Do not proceed with the application when rainfall is imminent unless in a sheltered or protected situation.
  • Do not use the product to waterproof structures exposed to UV rays
  • Do not use the product to waterproof structures with water under pressure
  • The substrate temperature must be at least 3°C above the dew point to reduce the risk of condensation.
  • The substrate moisture content must be ≤ 5% moisture content, with no rising moisture
