All surfaces should be clean, sound, dry, well cured with no rising dampness and free from grease, oils, curing membranes, laitance and any loose particles. Surfaces should be slightly rough and any laitance removed by wire brushing or water jetting.
Before applying AquaShieldPro AC, pay particular attention to expansion joints and fillet joints between horizontal and vertical surfaces. Structural joints must be waterproofed with apply a suitable elastomeric joint band bonded in place with RepairPro EP FC.
Movement Joints:
All connections between the substrate and pipe entries, plant and equipment, light switches etc., must be sealed and watertight. Joints in concrete, pipes or anywhere else in the structure must also be sealed and made watertight. All expansion and movement joints should be sealed with a suitable joint sealant. When sealant is cured, a non-adhesive debonding Tape should be applied loose over the joint. One primer coat of AquaShieldPro AC thickness should be applied to the substrate to a distance 100mm either side of the tape and allowed to dry. A single coat of AquaShieldPro AC should be applied over the joint area, extending 100mm beyond each side of the tape, and while wet, reinforced using 100% non-woven, virgin polypropylene mesh fabric and allowed to dry.
A second 1mm thick coat should then be applied. Special consideration to detailing of expansion joints, construction joints, all penetrations and at changes of direction (vertical and horizontal) using recommended mesh
After the recommended mesh has been applied, finish off the surface with a flat trowel and apply a second coat of AquaShieldPro AC. Successive coat must only be applied when the previous coat is dry
Before applying AquaShieldPro AC, pay particular attention to expansion joints and fillet joints between horizontal and vertical surfaces. Structural joints must be waterproofed with apply a suitable elastomeric joint band bonded in place with RepairPro EP FC.
Coving and bends:
Use coved details at the floor/wall junctions. All angles / bends must have a cant strip or coving detail installed. This may be formed using a sand/ cement mix. One primer coat of AquaShieldPro AC should be applied, extending 150mm either side of the coving and pre-soak the reinforce using recommended mesh while still wet and allowed to dry. A second coat should be applied.
All protrusions and stress points should be pretreated with a single coat of AquaShieldPro AC extending 150mm either side of the detail. Reinforcement using recommended mesh is recommended where movement is possible, using the same technique as above.
All pretreatment coats must be allowed to dry before the main application of AquaShieldPro AC
Primer
Before applying AquaShieldPro AC
- Use BondPro Grip Primer for old ceramic, porcelain and natural stone floors.
- Use BondPro Penetrating Primer for very porous substrates like gypsum boards, cement boards and anhydrite screeds
Mixing
AquashieldPro AC is a single component but stirring of the pail is recommended prior to the application of the coating. This will remove any sediment which may occur during storage. The use of a slow speed drill and suitable paddle should be used in order to avoid the formation of air bubbles.
